We hear from women all the time that they find it extremely frustrating that the skin on their neck continues to sag as they age. Unfortunately, your neck is not a part of your body that can be toned as easily as others. This is especially true after you reach the age of 40. In the past, the only way to reverse the drooping of your chin was to opt to have a neck lift. While neck lifts are still relatively popular, a new option known as Kybella® is now being offered to those who are sick of sagging neck skin or a double chin. In order to know which of these procedures would be best for you, let’s take a closer look at what happens during each.

During & After A Kybella Treatment

When you opt to have the Kybella treatment, the process is fairly simple. Your doctor will inject something known as deoxycholic acid into the fat in your chin. While you may not like the sound of anything being injected into you, deoxycholic acid is actually already naturally present in the body. When this is injected into your chin, it will work to dissolve the fat that is causing your double chin over a period of a couple of weeks.

Each treatment involves anywhere from 12 to 20 different injections with extremely fine needles with each session taking only about 20 minutes to complete. There is hardly any recovery time, allowing you have the treatment completed over your lunch break and subsequently head back to work. While you may experience a tad bit of swelling and discomfort, it would not be so severe as to keep you out of work or unable to complete your regular daily activities.

During & After A Neck Lift

A neck lift is just a tad more involved. After all, it is surgery. Neck lifts not only correct the fat below your chin but they also will correct issues with the muscle and the skin that you are not fond of. When you have a neck lift, the surgeon will make an incision, usually right behind the ears, below the chin and back towards the hairline on your neck. The surgeon will then move the fat, redistributing it while also removing any excess fat with liposuction. The surgeon will then either tighten your muscle or reposition the tissue that is present under your neck. Which method depends entirely on your personal situation. The skin will then be laid back over your neck with any excess skin being cut away. This entire procedure takes anywhere from two to four hours to complete and recovery time is a bit more daunting. Most often people need anywhere from two weeks to a month to completely recover from a neck lift.

Which Should You Choose?

Here’s the thing, both options are great. However, depending on your personal situation, one may be better than the other. For many people, the idea of surgery is not appealing at all and therefore they opt to get less invasive Kybella treatment.
