If you have recently decided to commit to a cosmetic procedure that doesn’t require you to go under the knife, you have likely been doing a lot of research. If you are trying to get rid of frown lines, you have likely come to the fork in the road that requires you to decide whether you want to get Botox® or Dysport®. You likely know a handful of people who have had both procedures and you think the results of both look great. However, the real question is, which one will be great for you? So let’s take a closer look at both of these wrinkle eliminating procedures.

What Is Botox?

botox or dysport cosmetic treatments.Plain and simple, Botox is a drug that is made from botulinum toxin. It removes the appearance of wrinkles by paralyzing the muscles that are responsible for them. It was approved by the FDA in the U.S. in 2002 and has been removing wrinkles since.

What Is Dysport?

Dysport is also made from botulinum toxin and have been used in the United Kingdom since 1991 and in the United States since 2009.

What Makes Them Different?

So if they are made of the same component, what makes them two different procedures? Two very simple things: the size of the molecules that are injected and the depth of the injection. The molecules in Dysport are about ⅓ the size of the molecules in Botox. Dysport injections are also made more deeply and tend to be placed further apart than Botox injections.
